Why should I invest?
By 2050, the world's population is predicted to reach 9 billion people. According to some estimates, food production must increase by 70% to feed our global population. Given concerns about global warming and irregular weather patterns, this is a significant challenge. Every obstacle, on the other hand, brings with it opportunities. Vertical farming is one solution to establish food security.
Vertical farming involves growing plants in stacked layers in a controlled environment, where all environmental elements can be regulated, and will become more common in cities across the world, providing a local farming resource that minimizes the need of transportation while also supplying fresh local food for city people.
The most notable advantage of vertical farms is that they are more water-efficient than conventional farming methods. According to the World Bank agriculture is accountable (on average) for 70 percent of all freshwater withdrawals globally.
Another advantage of vertical farming is that it is not affected by the weather because the environment is regulated, allowing to produce crops year-round without fear of unfavorable weather conditions.
An Industry with Continuous Advancement
Vertical farms are often controlled to control light, temperature, and water use, similar to how many people utilize smart gadgets and automation to make their houses more convenient.
With innovations in technology, we can significantly reduce a plant's overall energy use. Cameras and sensors can even be used by some systems to determine when crops are ready to be harvested. This approach, which involves determining when to pick certain plants, has previously been shown to reduce the amount of food loss associated with full-field harvests.
Plant Factories do not require cutting-edge technology to make a meaningful difference. Even little changes, such as improved LED bulbs, help to save expenses by enhancing energy efficiency and substantially lowering heat waste inside the system.
